Such a surprise for my wife and I during our visit to Queenscliff. We were greeted by Chris on our arrival, had a quick orientation tour of the hotel and then taken up to our spacious room. This “grand old lady” has had her bedrooms refurbished. Ours was clean, bright and warm. Each room has its own ensuite, ours even had a spa bath! Our room, located at the front of the building also had a section of balcony for our personal use. Athelstane is a genuine Bed and Breakfast with a delicious, cooked breakfast included in our tariff (which would have been a $60 exercise at a local cafe). No Kelloggs-style Continental breakfast here. Compared to AirBnB prices, this stay was such good value. Chris served us coffee, tea and cake for afternoon tea, all as part of our stay. Her cakes were just so moist, my favourite being the orange drizzle cake. Athelstane Hotel is situated perfectly in the centre of Queenscliff, just off the Main Street so noise was no issue. We will be back in October with friends for The Blues Train experience and are considering the Queenscliff Music Festival later this year. We can’t wait to share this great value hotel with our friends. As an aside, we loved the black and white photos of iconic performers hung from the walls of the hotel entry all signed by the same photographer. We asked Chris who the photographer was and it turned out to be the excellent still photographer David Parker. What a bonus!!

We experienced a comfy bed, clean, quiet rooms with older world charm of the building. A/C worked fast (summer visit) which was lovely. Friendly and smiling team, good quality fresh food. Well positioned in town, a short walk to everywhere. Breakfasts were fresh, generous, looked delicious, and tasted deliciouser! We'd love to come back.

A lovely little bed and breakfast right in the heart of Queenscliff. The current tenant Laurel does an amazing job creating a beautiful charming atmosphere for her guests, it really is a one-of-a-kind venue. Spacious. Charming. Excellent attention to detail. It's a shame to see the landlord is selling the property and to see the tenants moving on shorty. The prospective purchaser would be wise to contact Laurel directly to maintain the business in its current format to ensure Atheltane Houses' ongoing long term success. Highly recommended

We look forward so much to staying at Athelstane. This is our 10th winter visit. As always we were made so welcome. It’s not just The wonderful breakfasts, it is those other things like a spotlessly clean room and a beautifully comfortable bed for peaceful nights of sleep. What more could you ask? Thank you Laurel, your hotel is the place to relax, and recharge. A and J.
