My girls and I had a great experience staying at The Capitol Hotel this weekend. The family room was clean & modern, location was spot on, surrounded by restaurants, steps away from the tram, and obviously, right next door to The Capitol Theatre. Staff were friendly and accommodating, Thomas is particular went above and beyond! This will now be our go to for Sydney stays.

Had a great experience at this hotel in Sydney, Australia! The staff were friendly and welcoming. Super convenient location close to food spots, the tram, souvenir shops, church and lots of Asian restaurants nearby, which I loved as an Asian traveller. Will definitely come back next time with my family!

Stayed at The Capitol Hotel recently and overall had a great experience. The location is spot on—super close to the Capital Theatre, food spots, and public transport. The room was modern, clean, and surprisingly spacious for a city hotel. Staff were friendly and check-in was easy. That said, there were a couple of downsides. At night, there was loud bass and music coming from outside our window, which made it a bit hard to fall asleep. Also, the breakfast was underwhelming—pretty basic and not really worth the price. Still, for convenience, comfort, and overall vibe, it’s a solid place to stay in Sydney. Would book again, but maybe bring earplugs and skip the brekkie.

1 star because it's the lowest Short summary: Great location, but a terrible night’s stay. Room soundproofing is extremely poor. Loud banging and talking started around 11:30pm until nearly 2am. Nighttime staff was not particularly helpful. Would not recommend if rest and comfort are important to you. Details for those who needed: I stayed at this hotel for one night and, unfortunately, had a terrible experience that I feel compelled to share. After returning to my room around 10pm, I went to bed at 11pm hoping for a quiet night. However, by 11:30pm, loud banging noises and talking started coming from the room directly opposite. I understand it's a Saturday and people are entitled for a joyful night but this is much worse than my experience in most hostels. This is due to the soundproofing was shockingly poor-l could hear everything clearly, far worse than what expect from a hotel at this price point and character. I called the night duty officer, who assured me he would investigate and provide an update—but 30 minutes later, the noise was still ongoing and no one got back to me. I called again and, frustratingly, no one answered. Eventually, I decided to step out and check what was happening. I discovered that someone had been stuck in the bathroom, and others in the room were trying to break them out—hence the constant banging. I suggested they call reception for help, and they mentioned a building manager was on the way but wouldn’t arrive for another 30 minutes. Later, I heard what sounded like hammering as the noise escalated. Even after hotel staff arrived, the commotion continued until 1:22am. Just as I thought I could finally sleep, loud talking (either from the hallway or inside the room) continued until 1:50am. When I raised the issue with reception the next morning, I was surprised to learn this was not an isolated incident. Even more concerning, the room involved was a standard double room, not a larger multi-room unit—yet it seemed 5–6 people were crammed in. To be fair, the morning staff were friendly and apologetic, but the lack of support from night staff and the overall experience was a nightmare. While the hotel enjoys a great location, if you're looking for a restful sleep or reliable service during the night, I sadly cannot recommend it.
