EcoScapes is located within the Kinloch Wilderness Lodge, perfectly set on the edge of the lightning bolt-shaped Lake Wakatipu – the third largest lake in New Zealand. From Queenstown Airport (ZQN), the property is approximately a 90-minute drive. Transfers are not included, please plan accordingly.

The Cabin – Understated, eco-friendly luxury set on the edge of Lake Wakatipu
With magnificent views of New Zealand’s alpine landscape, EcoScapes, hidden within Kinloch Wilderness Retreat, makes a compelling case for leaving the city behind for good.
Steeped in rich history, the Kinloch Wilderness Retreat is the site of the 1868 heritage lodge which once housed a tavern for the sawmill workers who worked nearby. Today, the site is an eco-inspired haven that exists to help protect and maintain the land and original lodge. The eco-friendly cabins – crafted with locally sourced green building technology – are the newest addition to the site. Designed to perfectly capture the essence of the natural landscape, these private retreats offer generously sized windows which provide sweeping views of the sunrise or the sunset’s ever-changing colours, a view over the lake and a private outdoor spa.
Inside, warm tones and blonde timber highlights perfectly complement the space while bringing a touch of the outdoors inside. A plush queen bed provides exceptional comfort, and several little nooks – including an expansive veranda, couch and a daybed along the window’s edge – are perfect for enjoying your surroundings, nursing a glass of wine or getting lost in a book.

Located just across the lake from Glenorchy and a serene 90-minute drive from Queenstown, this hideaway is perfectly placed for unparalleled relaxation and discovery. Beyond the retreat, you can trace the nearby Glacier Burn or Routeburn Track or pick up a paddle and glide across Lake Wakatipu. For an otherworldly adventure, pass stunning backdrops on horseback that were used in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (additional costs apply).

Bookings (except for Tour bookings and flights) may be cancelled with a full refund provided that cancellation occurs strictly within 7 days from the date of purchase and provided that the cancellation is made no less than 21 days prior to the check-in date.

No Worries… If your booking is with a property located in Australia or New Zealand you can make unlimited changes to the date of your hotel booking, as long as it’s at least 21 days before your original check-in date. If the property is located in any other country you may make unlimited date changes up to 1 day before check-in. This is provided you choose dates that are of an equal value and are available. - During winter, the restaurant may close at 6pm if there are no bookings. To avoid disappointment, dinner reservations are required to be made by 4pm each day.
- Dining inclusions do not include beverages (unless otherwise stated). Menus are subject to change without notice.
- Breakfast will be available from the restaurant onsite from 8am to 10am OR can be delivered to each cabin on request.
- Picnic: the one-time picnic must be booked in advance and can be enjoyed on any of the 19-day walks within the area or by the lake. Please contact the resort in advance to organise.
- Pinot noir can be swapped for a white wine of the same value, subject to availability.
