We needed a cheap overnight stay with a good city location. The Grosvenor met our needs perfectly. Having the onsite car park was also a bonus. Note that this is not a 5 star establishment and you get what you pay for in the heart of the city. It was clean, comfortable, and handy to everywhere we needed to go for our stay in the city.

Friendly and helpful staff. Location was amazing… right next to the trams and train station. Very easy to get to Rundle Mall and Chinatown via tram. Rooms are nice and clean. Not as bad as what people say. Beds are comfortable. Very happy with our stay and will definitely come back in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city, making everything easily accessible. The staff were friendly, and the room was comfortable and well-maintained. The only issue we encountered was that only one lift was functioning during our stay.

The first room we were given felt very dated and gloomy—honestly, I’ve stayed in nicer rooms in Kings Cross in the 1980s. We were moved to a “better” room, but the high windows with old, awkward curtains didn’t help. It would have been nice to see outside without having to stand right up against the window, and my wife couldn’t see out at all unless she stood on the bed. The hotel’s website shows guests enjoying balconies, but those rooms seem to be few and far between. It would have been great to have access to one of those, but there was no indication of how to book them. The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable, and the wardrobe offered almost no usable hanging space—already taken up by two robes and an ironing board. At checkout, we discovered we’d been overcharged for parking, which a staff member did pick up and correct. They had also mistakenly placed another charge of over $700 on the account. Although they released it, I still had to contact my bank to get the pending hold removed. Because I booked and paid for two rooms in one transaction, I was also charged the merchant fee twice, which felt unnecessary. Only one lift was working, which made for long waits during busy times. When we first checked in, the lift reached the carpark three times but was too full for us to get in. A staff member mentioned the other lift had been out of service for eight or nine months. The carpark itself is extremely tight; anyone with a large vehicle or limited confidence should think twice. Overall, this was a very average stay—certainly not what I’d expect from a hotel claiming three stars. The location in the CBD is the one major positive, but in my view, it doesn’t justify the price. I haven’t had much luck with ACCOR properties in Australia lately, and I’m hoping for a better experience when travelling overseas next year.
