I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Mercier The beautiful Art Deco decor is displayed throughout. The rooms are spacious, clean, and very quiet. The hotel concierge staff is friendly and extremely helpful and always made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again and give it 5 stars!!!!

We recently stayed at Hotel Mercier in Amsterdam and had a mixed experience. The location is fantastic, and we were warmly welcomed at check-in, which set a great tone. Unfortunately, things went downhill when we encountered an issue with our room. We had booked an internal room (no exterior windows) through a third-party travel portal, and found that the air conditioning didn’t work. Even with a fan provided by staff, the room remained over 25°C. The hallways were noticeably cooler, making the room feel even more uncomfortable, especially for sleep. We saw that another room was available to book online and asked to be moved, but were told by the front desk that they couldn’t help because we booked through a third party. We spent hours ping-ponging between the hotel and the booking company, trying to sort it out. Eventually, while at dinner, the booking company confirmed a room change, only for us to return and be told that the new room had been booked by someone else online in the meantime. It was our last night, and we had an early international flight, so it was a frustrating end to an otherwise lovely trip. Most reviews mention how beautiful the rooms are, but it’s worth noting those are the external rooms, so be mindful of the distinction when booking and consider calling ahead to confirm room type. Internal rooms are small, motel-like set up - and in our experience very stuffy. We usually seek out and support local, boutique hotels, but sadly in this case, it felt like we were penalized for not booking direct. Hopefully service is more consistent for those who do.

I stayed at Hotel Mercier in Amsterdam for four nights, and unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was unwelcoming. We got there before the official check-in time and politely asked if a room might be ready a bit early. Instead of a courteous response, we were curtly told, “Check-in is at 3,” with no effort to check or offer to hold our bags, we had to specifically ask them to be held. It set the tone for the rest of the stay. The room itself was tiny, dark, and had a noticeable smell. The lighting didn’t work properly, and despite raising the issue, no one made an effort to fix it. Even more concerning, the air conditioning unit was leaking, and there was a disturbing black water stain on the wall beneath it. Other questionable stains on the walls — which I can only hope were makeup — added to the discomfort. The carpet clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly, and both my husband and I woke up every morning with allergy symptoms, which is highly unusual for us. We also asked to borrow umbrellas on a rainy day and were handed one that was broken — a quick check of the others revealed they were all in a similar state of disrepair. It’s a small detail, but indicative of the overall lack of care or attention to guest experience. The biggest letdown, however, was the attitude of the staff throughout our stay. Rude, dismissive, and generally unhelpful — not what you’d expect or hope for during a visit to such a vibrant city. I completely understand the concept of getting what you pay for, but in this case, even considering the price point for that weekend, the experience was not worth it.
