Lakestone Lodge is located approximately a 2.5-hour drive from Queenstown Airport or a 3.5-hour drive from Christchurch Airport. Nestled on the edge of Lake Pukaki’s glistening turquoise waters, within the shadow of Aoraki/Mt Cook and underneath the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, this retreat is the perfect place for hiking, cycling or simply gazing up at the incredibly clear, star-studded night skies.

Total seclusion is yours at the charming Lakestone Lodge, by the glistening waters of Lake Pukaki and on the backdrop of the Southern Alps mountain range. With a mere six guestrooms onsite — overseen by owners Mike and Anna — this boutique escape was made for intimacy, with no more than 12 guests at any one time.
Stargaze under one of the most spectacular skies in the world, part of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, with complimentary access to an impressive telescope, and sink into relaxation in your private ensuite bathtub, overlooking the glittering lake.

Enjoy the tranquillity of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed area where you can witness some of the starriest skies in the world, watch storms roll over the Southern Alps from your bathtub and explore the majestic national park around Aoraki/Mt Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain at 12,200 feet.
Complimentary use of the retreat’s mountain bikes means you can cycle along the magnificent 300km Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail that runs from Mt Cook to Oamaru by the coast and past some of New Zealand’s most spectacular scenery. Hike along the Pukaki Kettle Hole Track for a breath of revitalising mountain air, venture 45 minutes to Mt Cook Village and relax in a secluded, private hot tub in its own landscaped site at the serene Tekapo Springs — less than a 30-minute drive from Lakestone Lodge.

The Gourmet Dining – Daily breakfast, a decadent picnic lunch and a three-course dinner made with locally-sourced produce
Wake up to daily breakfast served in your choice of the lodge’s dining room, your guest room or in the lodge’s courtyard. Enjoy a home-cooked breakfast like bacon and eggs, pancakes or an omelette, along with a selection of fresh fruit, homemade muesli, yoghurt, orange juice, bread and spreads.
Set out to discover the breathtaking surrounding scenery with a gourmet picnic lunch for two, and on the first evening at the lodge, be treated to a chef-prepared three-course dinner. Savour a daily-changing set menu based around local produce such as salmon, venison or lamb, served with freshly-baked bread. It’s the perfect way to experience the unique flavours of this region.

Relax amid a backdrop of the breathtaking Lake Tekapo, mountains and native alpine plants with a complimentary general pool pass for two at Tekapo Springs. Offering three-tiered hot pools ranging from 36-40 degrees Celsius, this is one of the most idyllic places to sit back, relax and soak. Between June and October, you might choose to swap your included picnic for ice skating and snow tubing here.
As night falls, take advantage of the incredible night skies unique to this part of the world. Lakestone Lodge offers a Night Sky Experience (surcharges apply, weather permitting) where you can relax in a hammock and marvel at the southern skies while your guide points out constellations and Māori legends. It’s sure to be an unforgettable experience.
New Zealand is famous for being home to some of Hollywood’s most spectacular film locations. The stunning Aoraki/Mount Cook and Lake Pukaki were chosen by Sir Peter Jackson to feature as the ‘Lake-town’ (or ‘Esgaroth’) in his movie ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’. Visitors can relive the magic with Lord of the Rings tours, run by tour operators in Twizel (charges apply).
