Highlights

The Lodge – An escape made exclusive by its remoteness, on the fringes of the Flinders Ranges

Experience a unique escape to a destination made exclusive by its breathtaking remoteness at The Prairie Outback Lodge, within the iconic Prairie Hotel. Follow the solitary dusty red road of the Outback Highway (5.5 hours from Adelaide CBD) to this outback oasis, hidden near the iconic Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound.

This ancient landscape (brimming with more than 600 million years of ancient and Indigenous history) is made up of deep craters, gorges, creeks and iconic sites like Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre and Wilpena Pound, a colossal natural amphitheatre. Spend long days exploring some of Australia’s most quintessential sites and return to the comfort of your lodge, where a warm welcome from fellow travellers and locals is accompanied by an ice-cold beer from the onsite Brewhouse. Fuel your outback discovery at Gallery Restaurant, where fine dining is sharing a Flinders feral feast and sipping a glass of shiraz as the sunsets into the endless red plains.

Your Handpicked Inclusions – Welcome drinks, daily à la carte breakfast, nightly culinary experiences and Prairie tasting menu experience

The journey into South Australia’s remote and vast outback is long and bumpy – what better remedy for the journey than a glass of wine or ice-cold beer when you arrive at your lodge? Fuel up each morning with daily à la carte breakfast at the Gallery Restaurant and after a day of ticking off quintessential Aussie bucket list experiences, before returning to a delicious culinary experience every evening. Dishes are made using native ingredients: enjoy everything from quandongs (native peaches) to wattle seeds, saltbush and mountain pepper berries. Nothing truly immerses you in a region like tasting the local flavours.

Speaking of, be treated to a one-time Prairie tasting menu and dessert, which includes a platter filled with tasty bites such as kangaroo pastrami, goats cheese, chargrilled vegetables, house-made bush tomato chilli jam, warm ciabatta bread, quandong dessert and more. Accompanying your platter is a glass from the lodge’s own Fargher Lager brew or a glass of Flinders Range sparkling, white or red wine.

First visit to this part of SA. Intriguing menu options and beer choices. First time having emu, kangaroo and camel. Enjoyed it all. Exterior is old school classic look, and interior smartly renovated. Plenty of artwork for sale lining the walls. Being a tourist from Northern Hemisphere, it hit the spot for me! (Did not stay at the lodge, only lunch)

Stayed here a few times over the years and it is truly an Outback icon on every level. Family owned and operated for years. Overflow accommodation provides a value, clean and functional space from which to explore the wider region. The food is exceptional- Feral Goat Curry one of the best Indian curries I’ve had anywhere! Good kids menu too for families. House made beers on tap. Terrific wine list. The sunset is one of the best you’ll experience globally. Unique. Highly recommended.

The outside was vastly different to the inside. The exterior had an old country pub charm however inside was beautifully renovated with a very modern atmosphere. Kind staff and a good variety on the menu. Everything was clean and well organised, and the food was incredible. Definitely recommend the kangaroo schnitzel and the local meat selection which was certainly an adventure (first time trying emu and camel).

Food was great. Vibe wasn’t. The renovation looks beautiful, but has removed the soul from what was an awesome outback pub. Popped over to the North Blinman Hotel for something more interesting than a bistro that could be found in any city.
