Need Itinerary Inspiration? — Your five-night adventure could look a little like this…
Day 1: With early boarding included in your package, you can board the spectacular Queen Marie from 5pm the night before your charter commences. Stay overnight onboard at the Coral Sea Marina and unwind with up to seven of your nearest and dearest. After you’ve freshened up, you could enjoy a leisurely walk into the vibrant Airlie Beach for some fine dining or take in some live music at any number of the local venues.
Day 2: Whether you’re a pro skipper or a new sailor, you will receive a full briefing on the handling and safety features of Queen Marie, as well as the many wonders of the Whitsundays, so you’re ready for embarkation. Then, it’s over to you! Our recommendation? Nara Inlet has simply stunning scenery and is the ideal place to put down your anchor on the first night. Tonight, cook up a storm onboard and dine under the stars.
Day 3: Enjoy a spot of breakfast whilst getting to know the local cockatoos and turtles. Mid-morning could find you out the back of Hayman Island, dragging a lure off the rear deck in search of the ever-elusive Spanish Mackerel, before settling in for the afternoon at Butterfly Bay. Cool off with a snorkel over the fringing reef and as the sun sets, turn on the underwater lights at the rear of the boat to marvel at the different species passing underneath.
Day 4: Journey to Whitehaven Beach today. But first, it’s always a good idea to call into Tongue Bay and climb to the lookout at Hill Inlet — one of the most spectacular and well-photographed views in the Whitsundays. Following some lunch onboard the Queen Marie, enjoy a stroll across the velvet sands of Whitehaven. Nighttime could find you attached to a public mooring at Chalkies Beach, sitting next to a 100m channel where big fish are often seen gliding past.
Day 5: Cut through Solway Passage and head towards Hamilton Island this morning. This is a great place to jump off and just spend some time meandering with plenty of lovely restaurants, bars and shops. Returning to Queen Marie, you could continue to Long Island for sunset.
Day 6: Take your time exploring this morning, perhaps enjoying a spot of fishing — the channel that runs alongside Long Island is well known for tuna, who love to jump on the end of lures — or a well-deserved beachside cocktail. Come mid-afternoon, it will be time to head back to Coral Sea Marina for a 5pm disembarkation.
The Ultimate Time to Go — Schedule your adventure around the time of year that suits you
November to February offers the best sailing conditions, while April through June offers the mildest conditions. Between June and August, witness the spectacular whale-watching season. The calm and protected waters of the Whitsundays create the ideal environment for humpback and pilot whales (and occasional migaloo) to give birth to their young. As a result, magnificent whale sightings are extremely common. Winter in the Whitsundays is still wonderfully warm.
