The Okura Tokyo

Five-Star Tokyo Heritage-Inspired Elegance with Five Restaurants & Indoor Pool

The Okura Tokyo logo

Experience the best of Japanese beauty, elegance and old-world charm with an escape to The Okura Tokyo. Set across two soaring towers, this reimagined hotel features countless design details that have been painstakingly recreated to evoke the architecture of the original hotel of 1962. Its iconic hexagonal pendant lamps, geometric carpets, immaculately maintained flower arrangements, intricate hinoki wood panels and interior designs by Yoshio Taniguchi — the son of the original architect — all magically echo its past glory. Delivering the highest quality, five-star ‘omotenashi’ (the art of Japanese service), this sleek and sophisticated sanctuary is both the place to be seen and to escape the bustle of the city.

Club Upgrades: Upgrade to a Heritage or Club Room and enjoy access to the Club Lounge and all its benefits, including daily club breakfast, afternoon tea, hors d’oeuvres and nightly drinks.

I chose this place because of its great location and top ratings, and I was so happy they upgraded me to a corner suite. The sauna was spacious, and I had a private room, so I was able to shower comfortably. The room was spacious and the view was amazing, especially the night view. ^^ It was my birthday, and I received a congratulatory message, flowers, and a small gift, so I was happy. ♡

After a 24-hour journey, which included a 16-hour flight and transfers without sleep, we finally arrived at The Okura Hotel in Japan. Receptionist asked me to provide my credit card for the deposit. I explained that I would pay for the room in cash and use the credit card only for additional expenses. However, ignoring what I said, she tried to charge the full cost of the hotel to my credit card. I repeated that I wanted to pay in cash, and then she asked me to show them the cash. I did as they asked, but she said the payment had to be in yen. So I started exchanging my money for yen using the machine at the hotel. I had already exchanged about two-thirds of the room cost when the machine malfunctioned and failed to return my money. I informed them that the machine was not working and that only a small part of the payment was left. However, ignoring how exhausted we were, he said that the room would only be provided after full payment. He then gave us the address of an exchange office to convert the rest of the money. Exchanging the money took about several hour, and finally, after much stress and exhaustion, they gave us the room we had booked for eight nights. Whether what they did was right or wrong is for you to judge, but for us, it left nothing but a bad memory.
